Several Iberia Parish deputies were injured and required medical treatment after being involved in a crash while pursuing a fleeing suspect, according to a statement from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to the statement, the Iberia deputies were assisting the Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office in the chase, which had begun on Highway 90 in Iberia Parish.

The vehicle driven by the suspect, Alvin Westly, 19, of Lafayette, continued into the city of New Iberia. During the pursuit, three Iberia Sheriff’s Office vehicles were involved in a crash and the deputies driving those cars were injured.

Westley was apprehended at the intersection of Ann and Dale streets. He was arrested on warrants for failure to appear for possession of marijuana and failure to appear on an arraignment for simple burglary. He also faces charges from the Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office and the Louisiana State Police.
