Police: Be aware of scammers’ scheme
LAFAYETTE — Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department warned businesses about several “quick-change” scam artists working within the city, according to a news release.
Quick-change artists have exited businesses with as a little as $20 and as much as $800 by confusing clerks during purchases, resulting in clerks giving the scam artists more money than they were owed, the release said.
At least seven incidents were recently reported to Lafayette Police, according to the release.
On Sept. 19, detectives arrested 43-year-old Kenneth Wright, of Houston, who has been connected to four of the incidents, the release said.
Wright was arrested on two counts of bank fraud and one count of theft, according to online jail records.
Three other incidents have been reported since Wright’s arrest, the release said.
Employers should speak with their employees about the potential of becoming a victim to these scam artists, the release said.
