A Scott man was sentenced Friday to three years in federal prison in the theft of a car he drove to Florida after escaping from an inmate road crew in 2012, officials said.

Shawn A. Jollivette, 36, also was ordered to serve two years supervised release and pay $197 in restitution, U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley said.

Jollivette pleaded guilty in U.S. District Judge Elizabeth Foote’s court in June to one count of interstate transport of a stolen vehicle, Finley said in a news release.

Jollivette was an Avoyelles Parish inmate in March 2012 when broke free of a road crew working in Marksville and stole a car. He had been ordered to finish his Avoyelles Parish jail sentence and then report to federal prison for conviction of a felon in possession of a firearm charge when he stole the car, Finley said.

Jollivette was caught in Florida on March 29, two days after he escaped the work crew, by federal agents who found a 9mm handgun on the car seat, Finley said.

Federal agents investigated the case prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph T. Mickel.
