An anonymous Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest Monday of an 18-year-old accused of torching an ATM on West Pinhook Road and damaging another one on Johnston Street, Lafayette Police said in a news release.

Aaron Goodwin was booked on two counts of felony simple criminal damage to property two weeks after police released surveillance images Dec. 14 of a man damaging the ATM on West Pinhook Road on Dec. 10, spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said.

The attempted thief in both instances failed to extract cash from the machines, Mouton said.

Clerks robbed at gunpoint at Church’s Chicken

Three clerks at a chicken restaurant on the Evangeline Thruway were robbed at gunpoint early Monday morning, Lafayette Police said.

The employees were leaving Church’s Chicken after closing time when two men approached them with handguns, forced them back into the business and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said. The robbers fled in an unknown direction.

Pedestrian killed trying to cross U.S. 90 on Sunday

A man was killed Sunday evening when he tried to cross U.S. 90 near Youngsville.

Louisiana State Police said Brian Bearden, 48, walked across U.S. 90 East near Petroleum Parkway and was struck by a 30-year-old driver in a 2006 Honda CRV.

Bearden was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead. The driver, Allen Milligan of Lafayette, was uninjured, State Police said.

LSP said toxicology samples were taken from the victim. Milligan was tested and wasn’t impaired.
