A deputy with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office was arrested Thursday on suspicion he transported drugs and contraband into the parish correctional center.

Tyler Bonnet, 21, on Friday remained in the parish jail on counts of malfeasance in office, distribution of Schedule 1 narcotics and taking contraband to and from a penal institution, Sheriff’s Capt. John Babin said.

Bonnet is being held on bail of $25,000.

Bonnet, a resident of Rayne, was arrested after an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, Babin said in a news release.

Babin said Bonnet was placed on administrative leave without pay pending completion of an initial investigation.
