LAFAYETTE — A Lafayette teen is wanted for attempted second-degree murder in the Tuesday night shooting of a 20-year-old Lafayette man, police said Wednesday.

The shooting occurred in the 700 block of North Pierce Street about 8 p.m., according to Lafayette police.

Police said Rickey “Rico” Bernard Jr., 17, fired multiple shots at the victim, striking him once in each leg, poilce said. The victim was taken to an area hospital and treated for his wounds.

The cause of the shooting remains under investigation.

Woman arrested in death of fetus

VILLE PLATTE — A Ville Platte woman was booked with feticide after she allegedly beat a pregnant woman.

Police Chief Neal Lartigue said Racheal Bellard was accused of fighting with the pregnant woman Oct. 15. It was unclear when Bellard was arrested. Lartigue said Tuesday that the fight happened at a business where the two women were customers. After the alleged fight, the pregnant woman apparently miscarried later that week.

Lartigue said he expects another arrest in the case.
