A high-speed chase by State Police on I- 49 north of Ville Platte Friday afternoon led to a man’s arrest on weapons and other counts after the driver eventually crashed into a pickup truck, KATC-TV reported.

Drugs and weapons were found in the vehicle and the driver, Brandon O. McZeal, 25, of Lafayette, was booked on counts of reckless operation, possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, convicted felon with a firearm and vehicular negligent injuring.

Other counts against McZeal include aggravated flight from an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to distribute Schedule 1 narcotics, possession to distribute Schedule 2 narcotics and improper passing on the shoulder.

A passenger in McZeal’s vehicle, Dana Batiste, 20, also of Lafayette, was booked on counts of possession with intent to distribute Schedule 1 narcotics and possession with intent to distribute Schedule 2 narcotics.
