A St. Martinville man was in serious condition Thursday following a shooting on Main Highway in St. Martin Parish Wednesday afternoon, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office said.

The 19-year-old victim was discovered about 3:30 p.m. in his car in the 5000 block of Main Highway, suffering from a gunshot wound,  Maj. Ginny Higgins said.

She said a man was seen leaving the victim’s car and fleeing the scene in a brown Chevrolet truck.

The suspected assailant then traveled about seven miles to an area near a Popeye’s restaurant in the 2300 block of North Main Street, left the Chevy truck and got into a blue car, believed to be a Mazda or Kia, Higgins said.

The car proceeded toward St. Martinville.
