A suspected dealer of synthetic marijuana in Iberia Parish, confronted by narcotics agents Tuesday, barricaded himself inside a home in Iberia Parish and ingested a potentially lethal amount of illegal narcotics that required a trip to the hospital, officials said.

Heath Duplechain, 35, on Wednesday afternoon remained in a medically induced coma, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Capt. Ryan Turner said in a release.

SWAT team members who broke past the barricades found Duplechain nonresponsive and in need of immediate medical attention, Turner said.

After Duplechain was transported to a hospital, officers searching the residence found 91 packets of synthetic marijuana, 21 ecstasy tablets, an undetermined amount of cocaine and methamphetamine and a .22-caliber handgun.

Turner said Duplechain faces numerous felony charges.
