A Mexican national pleaded guilty in federal district court in Lafayette on Wednesday to illegally re-entering the U.S. twice, U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley’s Office announced.
Mario Albert Mora-Villa, 41, will be sentenced Oct. 11 on a conviction of one count of illegal re-entry of a removed alien, Finley’s office stated in a press release.
While jailed in St. Mary Parish, Mora-Villa admitted to immigration officers he had been removed from the U.S. in March 2007 and November 2011 and had re-entered without permission, the release says.
He faces two years in prison, one year of supervised probation and a $250,000 fine.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
