LAFAYETTE — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested the mother of a 9-year-old boy who died June 12 from injuries suffered in a severe beating.

Stefani A. Morgan, 28, 200 block of Mineral Street, Lafayette, was arrested on one count of principal to first-degree murder, according to a Wednesday news release.

The mother’s boyfriend, Ronjoenox Hamilton, 31, has already been arrested on one count of first-degree murder. Hamilton brought the unconscious boy to a local hospital late on the night of June 11, the Sheriff’s Office has said.

While treating the boy — later identified as Dylan James Royer — hospital staff found the boy had suffered severe injuries. The boy died the following day, the Sheriff’s Office has said.

Deputies did not specify what role Morgan played in her son’s death.

State law defines principals to a crime as “all persons concerned in the commission of a crime, whether present or absent, and whether they directly commit the act constituting the offense, aid and abet in its commission, or directly or indirectly counsel or procure another to commit the crime.”
