Investigators are searching for a man who shot and critically injured a woman outside a Bayou Vista home Wednesday morning — an incident that prompted a road closure and school lockdown.
The 47-year-old woman told detectives she was investigating a noise that she hear outside around 11 a.m. when she found a heavyset, olive-complected man with short blond hair in her backyard in the 400 block of Saturn Road, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The man, last seen wearing a striped shirt and khaki pants, confronted the woman with a handgun and shot her several times in the upper body area, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The woman is “in critical but stable condition” at a New Orleans hospital, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Traci Landry said.
Detectives closed Saturn Road between Moon and Uranus Roads for about four hours on Wednesday as they investigated the crime scene and put Bayou Vista Elementary School, located about a mile away, on lockdown as a precaution, the Sheriff’s Office said.
