Lafayette police have arrested a city man accused of a woman’s rape and the burglary of her home in the 600 block of the Northeast Evangeline Thruway on Saturday, spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said.

Ikaika Monroe Lindon, 24, was booked around 8:30 p.m. Monday on one count each of forcible rape, aggravated burglary and false imprisonment, Mouton said.

Police found him at a local motel.

The crime happened about 10 p.m. Saturday, when the woman told police a man she knew forced his way into her home with a handgun, sexually assaulted her and then stole things before fleeing, Mouton said.

The victim was treated at an area hospital and released.

The investigation is ongoing.

Suspect sought in Lafayette assault

Lafayette police issued a warrant Tuesday for the arrest of a man accused of assaulting another man in downtown Lafayette.

Joshua W. Richard, 27, of Lafayette, is wanted on second-degree battery in the early Friday morning incident, said Cpl. Paul Mouton, a Police Department spokesman.

Richard is accused of punching a 30-year-old Lafayette man twice in the face after the two bumped into each other on Jefferson Street about 1:45 a.m. The victim fell to the ground after the attack, and his assailant fled on foot, Mouton said.

Anyone with information on Richard’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the Lafayette Police Department or the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (337) 232-TIPS.

North Chestnut Street fire under investigation

Investigators are trying to determine whether a Tuesday morning fire inside a vacant Lafayette home in the 200 block of North Chestnut Street was set intentionally, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to the home at 9:24 a.m. to find the fire in an exterior closet containing a hot water heater, spokesman Alton Trahan said. The fire spread to the attic, causing moderate damage there and to the roof near the fire’s origin, Trahan said.

The home has been vacant for several years, but investigators are unsure if someone was sleeping in the closet or whether the fire was the work of an arsonist, Trahan said.

The fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Lafayette Fire Department at (337) 291-8716.

The robber fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the individual responsible is encouraged to call the Lafayette Police Department or the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (337) 232-TIPS.

New Iberia man wanted in levee truck burglary

An arrest warrant was issued Monday for a New Iberia man believed to be the person captured on surveillance video burglarizing a truck on the Charenton levee, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Anonymous tips submitted after the high-quality security video was released Dec. 18 led authorities to issue a warrant for Shane Ray Archangel, 20, of Walton Street, said Traci Landry, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities are also working to identify an accomplice seen ferrying the burglar away from the scene on a four-wheeler, Landry said.

The man police identified as Archangel is seen on the Nov. 9 video using a hammer to break the truck’s window, after which he stole two iPods and a handgun, Landry said.

Anyone with knowledge of the crime or Archangel’s whereabouts is asked to call the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 828-1960 or (985) 384-1622. Callers will remain anonymous, and tips may also be submitted to crimewatch@stmaryso.com.
