OPELOUSAS — An Opelousas teen surrendered to police following the Saturday night stabbing death of a 20-year-old man.

Police said in a news release that Markell Roberts, 212 S. Cane St., Opelousas, was arrested on one count of manslaughter in the death of Chadric Kennerson, 260 Gulino St., Opelousas.

The stabbing occurred in or around the 500 block of Perry Lane, the news release said.

Kennerson was transported to Opelousas General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The stabbing occurred after Kennerson approached Roberts and began to fight with him, the news release said.

During the fight, Roberts pulled a knife and stabbed Kennerson once in the upper body, the news release said.

Officers recovered the knife from Roberts after he arrived at the Police Department to turn himself in, the news release said.
