An 18-year-old Opelousas teen died in a single-vehicle crash shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, according to Louisiana State Police.
Ethan Thibodeaux was driving a 2009 Chevrolet truck south on La. 103 at Frilot Cove Road when, for unknown reasons, the truck traveled off the left side of the road, struck a tree and became engulf in flames, State Police said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner's Office.
Due to fire, it is unknown if Thibodeaux was wearing a seat belt, State Police said. Two passengers in the vehicle were wearing seat belts and sustained minor injuries. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash; however, routine toxicology samples are pending, State Police said.
