The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the Monday afternoon death of a 3-year-old boy at a home near Jennings in the western part of the parish, an official said.

A 911 call placed at 4:37 p.m. Monday from a Riverside Road home reported that the child was not breathing, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Maxine Trahan said in a release.

Before deputies arrived, someone at the home transported the boy to the Jennings American Legion Hospital in Jennings where he was pronounced dead.

Trahan said in a phone interview that she did not have the name of the boy and that the investigator assigned to the case was out of the office until Wednesday.

The release stated Sheriff Wayne Melancon was awaiting the results of an autopsy and that the case remains under investigation.
