A Lafayette Parish inmate pronounced dead at the jail on Friday died from natural causes, according to a preliminary report from the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office.
The inmate, 46-year-old Kreig Lutgring, died from cardiovascular disease, the Coroner’s Office reported Tuesday. A full autopsy will take up to two months.
Lutgring was found unresponsive in his cell on Friday and pronounced dead at 1:11 p.m. after medics unsuccessfully performed CPR, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Lutgring, who is listed as homeless in booking records, had been held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center since his March 30 arrest on counts of theft and resisting an officer, the Sheriff’s Office said.
