A woman in the St. Landry Parish town of Washington allegedly shot her mother and father Wednesday night, with responding deputies finding the suspect sitting on the couple’s porch holding gun, officials said.

Jamie Fontenot, 27, was arrested without further violence at around 9:10 p.m. Wednesday. On Thursday, she was being questioned St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives about the incident, Capt. Megan Vizena said.

The shooting occurred at Fontenot’s parents’ home on Grand Prairie Highway near Washington, Vizena said.

Fontenot’s 59-year-old father Thursday was in critical condition in an Opelousas hospital, and her 58-year-old mother was treated and released, she said.

Charges against Fontenot were pending Thursday afternoon.
