Two camouflaged men with hunting rifles broke into a home on McKinley Street Tuesday night and pepper-sprayed a person inside before stealing the victim’s wallet, according to Lafayette Police.

The robbers smashed the back door’s window to enter the home minutes before 9 p.m., then pepper-sprayed and hit the victim before fleeing, police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said.

The robbery happened in the 300 block of McKinley Street near the corner of General Mouton Avenue, two blocks from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus.

Police are continuing their investigation of the crime.
