LAFAYETTE — Police have arrested a 52-year-old Lafayette man suspected in the Monday morning bank robbery and bomb threat at a Regions Bank branch.

Lafayette police arrested Michael A. Menard at his home in the 100 block of South Beadle Monday night after conducting surveillance at the home for several hours, police said in a news release Tuesday.

A detective recognized Menard from photos taken at the bank Monday.

Police said Menard entered the Regions Bank, 5711 Johnston St., and demanded cash from a teller. He then left a suspicious package before leaving the bank.

The package was investigated as a possible bomb threat, police said.

Authorities rendered the package safe about three hours later, police said.
