Fire engulfs 40-foot motorhome

Firefighters battled a Monday night blaze that engulfed a 40-foot motorhome in the 100 block of Dairyman Lane, authorities said.

The flaming camper was reported around 10:35 p.m., Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier said in a news release. It was parked about six feet from a home and three feet from a semi-tractor and trailer, Sonnier said.

Firefighters from Scott, Judice and Duson were able to control the fire with minimal damage to the nearby structures, Sonnier said.

Investigators are working to determine the fire’s cause, although firefighters believe the fire was “accidental in nature,” Sonnier said.

New Iberia man booked in vehicle burglary

A New Iberia man wanted in a November vehicle burglary on the Charenton levee was booked Monday, authorities said.

Shane R. Archangel, 20, had been wanted on a burglary warrant since Dec. 29 after he was identified in surveillance images taken from within a burglarized pickup truck, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Traci Landry said.

He was booked into the Iberia Parish jail and transferred to the St. Mary Parish jail, where he’s being held without bail, Landry said.
