LAFAYETTE — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for an 18-year-old inmate who walked away from a minimum security work-release facility Thursday, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies believe Marcus Dupuis walked away while other work-release inmates were being escorted to work assignments during the early morning hours, according to the release.
Dupuis is serving a five-year sentence for marijuana possession and has been in custody for six months, the release said.
Investigators have not uncovered any evidence that Dupuis is dangerous or is armed, the release said.
Dupuis is from Lafayette, and investigators said they believe he is still in the Acadiana area, the release said.
Dupuis is described as a white man, 5 feet, 4 inches tall, and about 115 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes, the release said.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may know where Dupuis is to call Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-8477.
