A Lafayette police officer directing traffic at a school and two civilians were injured Wednesday morning in a five-car crash in the 2200 block of Johnston Street, police said.

A Chevrolet Tahoe traveling north on Johnston Street struck a car that was leaving the parking lot at Our Lady of Fatima School, causing the Tahoe to veer into the southbound lane and crash into the officer and three other cars stopped in traffic, police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said.

The officer is in good condition at an area hospital, and two people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, Mouton said in a news release.

The crash, which happened about 8 a.m., remains under investigation.
