OPELOUSAS — A Cankton man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Friday in St. Landry Parish, State Police said.
Joseph Menard, 68, was driving a 2004 Jaguar south on La. 93 near La. 356 at 2:20 a.m. when he ran off the right side of the road as he approached a curve and struck several trees, Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons said.
Menard’s vehicle glided back onto the roadway, coming to a stop on the shoulder, Hammons said in a release.
Menard was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office. He was not wearing a seat belt, Hammons said.
Hammons said investigators do not know if alcohol consumption was a factor. Toxicology samples were sent to State Police Crime Lab in a case that remains under investigation
