A Pollock woman was killed late Tuesday afternoon in a hit-and-run crash on La. 86 east of La. 31 in Iberia Parish, State Police said.

A preliminary investigation found that Angela Brown, 35, was traveling west on La. 86 when her 2006 Ford Mustang crossed the centerline, side-swiping a 2012 Toyota Sienna, driven by 50-year-old Carolyn Medina of Jeanerette, police said.

After striking Medina’s vehicle, Brown attempted to flee the scene, but later traveled off of the right side of the roadway and struck a tree , Master Trooper Brooks David of State Police Troop I said in a new release.

Brown was properly restrained, but was pronounced dead on scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office. Medina was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash, David said, and a toxicology sample was taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, meanwhile, is investigating a report that Brown was in a hit and run crash in St. Martin Parish, minutes before the crash occurred in Iberia Parish, David said.
