Lafayette police are looking for a man they say shot another man eight times around 5 p.m. in the 100 block of Van Buren Drive.

The suspect mentioned something to the victim about money before opening fire with a pistol, police said, then fled the scene.

Witnesses told police he might have entered a nearby drugstore, but a search of that store turned up nothing.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, is reported to be in critical condition at a local hospital. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a white shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS.

Lafayette investigating 2 hit-and-run incidents

Authorities in Lafayette Parish are investigating two unrelated hit-and-run incidents Friday night — one in which a baby narrowly escaped injury after a truck slammed into the child’s bedroom.

The incident involving the baby took place off Congress Street near Duson, where the homeowner says a white Dodge truck plowed through the wall of the home and into the baby’s bedroom.

The baby was in the crib at the time of the crash but was unharmed.

The other incident took place in the 1300 block of Gloria Switch Road in Carencro.

Eyewitnesses say a white pickup truck struck a mid-sized vehicle from behind before fleeing the scene. Witnesses describe the suspect truck as a white Ford Ranger.
