A Lafayette man was indicted Wednesday on a count of second-degree murder in a 2014 shooting death that went unsolved for more than a year.

Cody Ramon Brown, 33, is charged in the Nov. 21, 2014, killing of Dwayne Lee Batiste Jr., who was 22 when he was shot and killed on West Gilman Road near Happiness Street in Lafayette.

The victim was found dead in a truck after police responded to reports of gunfire at around 10:30 a.m.

Brown was arrested in February after a task force was set up to look at unsolved homicides. At the time of his arrest, Brown was incarcerated on unrelated charges at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.

A conviction for second-degree murder carries an automatic sentence of life in prison.
