City police arrested two people Wednesday afternoon in two shootings in north Lafayette.

Joshua Trovon Harley, 19, was booked on attempted first-degree murder and possessing a firearm with obliterated serial numbers in the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday shooting near Cameron and Pierce streets, spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said.

Christopher James Bartie, 24, was booked on a count of assault by drive-by shooting for retaliating within an hour of the first incident, Mouton said.

A woman riding with Bartie was shot in the hand when Harley fired a pistol at the car multiple times, Mouton said.

Bartie dropped the woman off at a hospital, then sought Harley at a house in the 300 block of Sampson Street, where he drove by firing, Mouton said.

There were no injuries reported in the second shooting. The injured woman was treated at the hospital and released.

Police have no evidence the shootings are related to a separate string of four Friday in the same area that left one man dead and two in the hospital, Mouton said.

Police investigating armed robberies

Authorities are investigating two armed robberies Tuesday night in less than an hour in which a man demanded cash from two stores over a 45-minute period.

Police said the first robbery of about $40 happened about 8:55 p.m. at the Valero gas station on West Summers Drive. The second — in which the robber got away with about $850 — happened at the Family Dollar on Veterans Memorial Drive about 9:43 p.m.

The man is described as a white or possibly biracial man in his 20s who is between 5 feet and 5 feet 4 inches tall. He’s suspected to have an accomplice and fled both stores on foot.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbeville Police Department at (337) 893-2511.
