OPELOUSAS — The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a 20-year-old Opelousas woman on one count of second-degree cruelty to juveniles, according to a news release.

The Sheriff’s Office said Jasmine Jefferies, 250 Annointing Drive, brought a 5-month-old child into a local hospital for a fractured arm injury that had occurred at least eight hours earlier.

The mother was arrested because of conflicting statements she gave concerning how the toddler was injured and about why medical attention was not sought sooner, the release said.

The investigation is ongoing, the release said.
