NEW IBERIA — Iberia Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested a New Iberia man in the shooting injury of his 24-year-old son Thursday.
Rendaill Proffit , 41, had fired a weapon at his old son during an altercation between the two shortly before 6 p.m. in the 700 block of Hopkins Street, Sheriff Louis Ackal said in a news release.
The son, who was not identified, was struck in the leg by a bullet and later treated and released from a local hospital, Ackal said.
Proffit was arrested without incident after a brief standoff with deputies, Ackal said.
Proffit was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on counts of attempted second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal discharge of a firearm, the sheriff said.
