Two males in a Northside High School teacher’s stolen car were arrested Tuesday after they tried to elude Scott police, accelerating to 80 mph before the driver lost control on West Willow Street, officials said.

A Scott police officer saw the vehicle speeding on Mills Road and tried to stop the driver before the car sped away, rushing through a stop sign and passing cars dangerously, Police Chief Chad Leger said.

The officer was able to arrest the teens after the car ended up in a ditch, Leger said.

Officers checking the registration noticed the car was registered to the teacher and that it had been reported stolen.

Arrested were a juvenile and 17-year-old Isaiah James Martin, of Lafayette, who was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. The youth was placed in the Lafayette Parish Juvenile Detention Center, Leger said.

Man booked in car theft while tanking up

A man filling a 2003 Honda Accord with gasoline while music from the car blared later was arrested after a Scott police officer discovered the car was stolen, officials said.

Scott Police Chief Chad Leger said the officer was at an Ambassador Caffery Parkway store and questioned Jamian Russell at 7:23 p.m. Wednesday after he noticed the temporary license on the Honda had been altered.

After the car’s ID numbers were matched with a car reported stolen, Russell, 36, told the officer he’d given his cousin $100 to use the car for three days.

But Russell could not provide his cousin’s name or address, Leger said.

Russell was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of unauthorized use of a movable, and the car was returned to its owner, Leger said.
