A Carencro woman was killed Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 west of Rayne, State Police said.

Britaney Waldrep, 21, was driving a 2008 Nissan Maxima east when she steered into the right lane at milepost 85 and clipped the front left of a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo, Master Trooper Brooks David said in a release.

Both vehicles ran off the right side of the interstate, and Waldrep’s car began to overturn. Waldrep was not wearing a seat belt, David said.

“She suffered fatal injuries as a result and was pronounced dead on scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office,” David said.

The driver of the Aveo and two passengers in Waldrep’s car were wearing seat belts. The passengers sustained minor injuries and were released from a local hospital. Miranda Olivier, the 27-year-old driver of the Aveo from Maurice, also sustained minor injuries, David said.

Impairment is not suspected of being a factor, though toxicology samples were sent to the State Police Crime Lab, David said.

He said Olivier agreed to a chemical test, and was ruled not impaired.
