A Lafayette man wanted on an attempted second-degree murder count in the Oct. 12 shooting on Clara Street was taken into custody over the weekend.

Police say 30-year-old Rondell Derouen, of the 400 block of Eighth Street, was arrested Sunday in the shooting and also booked with one count each of misdemeanor marijuana possession and criminal trespassing.

Derouen is accused of shooting a man twice in the 100 block of Clara Street, near the intersection of University Avenue and Interstate 10. The victim, who was not identified, was hospitalized with injuries.

Derouen was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center with bail set at $253,000.

Another suspect surrendered to police last week in a separate shooting Oct. 11 on Van Buren Drive, said Lafayette Police Department spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton. Jhailen Trevon Zeno, 20, of Lafayette, was booked on attempted second-degree murder, felony possession of marijuana, resisting an officer and driving on a roadway laned for traffic, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office website.

Suspects sought in $1.4 million fraud case

The U.S. Marshals Service is still looking for two Romanian nationals accused of defrauding more than $1.4 million from Louisiana and Mississippi residents through the Internet, KATC-TV reported.

Gheorghe Olar, 49, of 1020 Shady Oaks Lane, Breaux Bridge, and 31-year-old Dorin Munteneau, of 224 Young Drive, Lafayette, face multiple counts of felony racketeering, according to state Attorney General Buddy Caldwell’s office.

The two, along with nine other Acadiana residents, are accused of operating fraudulent versions of popular commercial sites like eBay and Craigslist where unknowing victims paid for items they never received, said Steven Hartmann, Caldwell’s spokesman.

Seven of those involved were arrested Oct. 14 and remain in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center each in lieu of $1 million bail, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office website.

Two others connected to the crimes were arrested in Mississippi June 11, according to Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood’s office.
