St. Landry Parish sheriff’s detectives are investigating a Sunday shooting near Eunice that left a 31-year-old man dead.

Deputies said they were told shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday that two men, the 31-year-old man, of Eunice, and a 34-year-old man, of Duson, had been involved in a heated argument that led to gunfire inside a residence on Shelton Manuel Road, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies would not identify the people involved in the shooting or say exactly where the shooting took place.

During the shooting, the 31-year-old man was killed.

A 31-year-old woman, of Church Point, also was shot. She was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice and released, according to the release.

The man, who detectives say likely was the shooter, and the woman have been detained so detectives can interview them, the release says.

Also, a handgun and a shotgun were removed from the house, deputies said.

“Our detectives are conducting a very thorough investigation and we will determine precisely what happened inside that residence,” Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said in the release. Every possible scenario will be considered.”

Guidroz said that “after this initial phase of the investigation has concluded,” the Sheriff’s Office will release the names of those involved in the shooting and more details on the incident.
