A 39-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly hit a 64-year-old woman in the face in New Iberia with a handgun during an argument.

Maj. Ryan Turner with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office said the victim was sitting at home shortly before 11:15 p.m. Friday when she heard what she surmised was gunshots next door.

She walked over to her neighbor’s home and confronted Tad Duhon, Turner said. Duhon hit her with a handgun over her left eye during an argument, before he ran away.

Deputies searching for him learned he was involved in a car crash and was transported to a hospital for injuries sustained in the crash, Turner said.

Deputies arrested Duhon at the hospital on counts of aggravated second-degree battery. Turner said.
