An Abbeville High School teacher accused of having sex with a student faces additional counts of possessing child pornography, KATC-TV reported.

Nicholas Willis, 36, of Kaplan, faces the child porn counts after police investigators searched his cellphone following his Jan. 6 arrest, Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams told KATC-TV.

Willis was released from jail Wednesday on a $220,000 bond.

He was placed on administrative leave from the high school on the same day as his arrest, Vermilion Parish Superintendent Jerome Puyau said last week.

Willis was booked in Kaplan on a count of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile as police suspect the incident happened in his home, according to an initial report of his arrest.

He’s taught science at Abbeville High School for the past eight years, Puyau said.

Crash victim identified as Lafayette man, 49

Police have identified the victim of a Tuesday evening fatal crash on Ambassador Caffery Parkway as 49-year-old Brian Nolan, of Lafayette.

Nolan’s Chevrolet Suburban was hit broadside by a Ford Expedition at the intersection of Ambassador Caffery and Dulles Drive, according to a news release from the Lafayette Police Department.

The Expedition’s driver, Federico Morales, 24, of Lafayette, was booked on counts of DWI, vehicular homicide, failure to obey a traffic control device, failure to secure a driver’s license and child endangerment.

Three children were travelling with Morales at the time of the crash but were not injured, police said.

Alcohol suspected as factor in Crowley crash

A Crowley man is accused of driving drunk in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning that left one of his passengers in critical condition, authorities said.

Benjamin Arledge, 20, was booked on first-offense DWI, careless operation and two counts of negligent injuring in the 1 a.m. crash near Ebenezer and Mark Twain roads, said Maxine Trahan, public information officer with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

She said Arledge was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle and landed in a yard in the 1600 block of Ebenezer Road. The front passenger was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from vehicle, Trahan said. He remained in a Lafayette hospital Wednesday afternoon in critical condition.

A third passenger, along with Arledge, was treated for minor injuries at an Acadia Parish hospital, Trahan said.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending in the crash, Trahan said.
