All roadways in the vicinity of Tuesday’s chemical plant fire in New Iberia are open now except Admiral Doyle Drive between Fox Road and Vortex Road, Louisiana State Police said Thursday in a news release.

State Police Haz-Mat remain on the scene of the fire which began at 4 p.m. Tuesday and continued to burn until it was extinguished Wednesday afternoon.

New Iberia residents forced to evacuate after the fire were allowed to return to their homes Thursday, State Police said.

The phased re-entry plan started at 9 a.m.

Crews working the fire at Multi-Chem Group on West Admiral Doyle Drive extinguished the fire and have determined it is safe for people to return to the area.

State Police, in conjunction with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, will assist residents with returning to their homes and businesses.

Anyone wishing to return to his home is asked to take Admiral Doyle from the south side to La. 3212 and a deputy will give them further instructions.

State Police ask that residents bring photo identification.

Residents will be escorted to their home, or business, where the air quality will be monitored.

Once the home or business is deemed safe, the residents will be allowed to enter.

The cause for the explosion remains under investigation.
