The state Attorney General’s Office says Jeanerette’s city marshal can enter into an agreement to oversee the city’s police department as long as the city compensates him for his time and expertise.

City Marshal Fernest “Pacman” Martin Sr. requested the opinion in early July when some of the town’s aldermen proposed having him oversee the police department. Former chief Marvin Grogan resigned after his arrest in a sting at Lipstick Gentlemen’s Club in Lafayette.
