Lafayette Police arrested a 21-year-old man in the Thursday shooting of a Baton Rouge man on Bertrand Drive.

Kenneth Mills, of Lafayette, was booked into jail on one count of negligent homicide in the fatal shooting of Colin Norwood at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Bertrand Drive, said Cpl. Paul Mouton, spokesman for the Lafayette Police Department.

Norwood, 21, was shot once in the chest around 12:30 a.m. Thursday and died in the hospital nine hours later, Mouton said.

Mouton declined to provide details about the circumstances of the shooting, which police previously described as accidental, citing the ongoing investigation.

Mills, the suspect in the shooting, was interviewed by detectives the night of the shooting. He has been cooperating with investigators since the incident, Mouton said.
