A 16-year-old girl was killed in a crash Saturday night on U.S. 90 east of Lake Charles, KATC-TV reported.

Britney Trahan, of Lake Charles, was headed north on Boy’s Village Road in a 2012 Toyota Scion when she failed to stop at a stop sign before turning onto U.S. 90, which is also known as Fruge Street, at about 7:15 p.m., State Police said.

Sharlene Parsley-Istre, 52, of Jennings, who was driving east in a Ford pickup truck on U.S. 90, slammed into Trahan’s car, police said. Trahan was pronounced dead at the scene. Parsley-Istre was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The crash is still being investigated, and toxicology results are pending. Police said Trahan and Parsley-Istre were wearing their seat belts.

Teen killed when driver loses control, flips car

A 17-year-old girl died Friday night in Vermilion Parish when the car she was riding in went off the road, into a ditch and flipped, KATC reported.

The incident happened when Kaitlyn Thevis, 18, of Gueydan, was driving south on Alvie Road and lost control of the vehicle, Sheriff Mike Couvillion told KATC-TV.

The vehicle crashed into a ditch and flipped over. Kaitlin Venissat, 17, of Gueydan, who was riding in the front passenger seat, was killed when she was thrown from the car, Couvillion said.

Thevis and a third passenger escaped from the crash with no injuries.

State Police are investigating the crash, but alcohol is not thought to be a factor.
