A Breaux Bridge man died Saturday after rear ending an 18-wheel truck on Interstate 10 at LA 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish, State Police said.
Larry E. Causey, 81, was driving a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck westbound on I-10 when he crashed into the back of a 2013 Kenworth tractor-railer rig shortly after 12 p.m., State Police spokesman Bryan Lee said in a news release.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, Ernesto Aguilar, 51, of Cameron, Texas, was also traveling westbound when he stopped due to traffic congestion from road construction and a previous wreck, Lee said.
Causey failed to stop as he approached the traffic, Lee said, turning his pickup to the right and striking the rear corner of the 18-wheeler.
Causey was transported by Acadian Air-Med to Our Lady of the Lake hospital with serious injuries, where he was later pronounced dead, Lee said.
Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash, and both drivers were wearing seat belts, State Police said.
