A Scott man accused of aggravated rape bonded out of jail Wednesday after he was indicted on a lesser charge, court records show.

Michael Burks, 35, was released on a $25,000 bond after a grand jury indicted him in February on a count of indecent behavior with a juvenile, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office. He entered a written plea of not guilty in 15th Judicial District Court and faces from two to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Burks was arrested in November on a count of aggravated rape after he was linked to a May rape kit performed on a 10-year-old girl, Scott police said at the time. He was initially held on a $500,000 bond, but it was reduced to $100,000 once he was indicted.

Judge Patrick Michot further reduced the bond to $25,000 upon a request from Burks’ public defender, Chad Ikerd.
