Detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a contractor wanted on fraud in four Acadiana parishes, Sheriff Louis Ackal announced late Thursday.
Neil Laperouse, 52, faces outstanding warrants from Iberia, Acadia, St. Martin and Lafayette parishes, Ackal said in a news release.
Acting on a tip that Laperouse was in the Loreauville area of Iberia Parish, detectives spoke to residents in the area and located Laperouse hiding behind an abandoned residence, the sheriff said.
Laperouse was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on two outstanding warrants for issuing worthless checks in Iberia Parish.
Laperouse faces contractor fraud counts in three other parishes, Ackal said.
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office reported earlier that Laperouse is suspected of defrauding two people in that parish in May who reported paying him for services that were never delivered.
