A 22-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly fleeing a crash that killed a Krotz Springs teenager, which officials initially believed to be a one-vehicle crash.

Brittany Coupel, of Opelousas, came forward and told troopers that she collided with a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Aaron Quebedeaux on U.S. 190 in St. Landry Parish early Saturday, Louisiana State Police said in a news release Sunday.

State Police had initially classified the incident as a one-vehicle crash and said the teen drove off the road and struck a bridge rail. After Coupel’s statements and further investigation, State Police determined that Coupel was driving eastbound on U.S. 190 in the right lane when she failed to negotiate a curve, entered into the left eastbound lane and collided with Quebedeaux’s vehicle. She is accused of fleeing the scene after the crash.

Coupel was booked into St. Landry Parish Jail on counts of obstruction of justice, hit and run driving and vehicular homicide.
