A Lafayette man who was standing in the eastbound lane of La. 98 was hit by a Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office cruiser and died late Friday, State Police said.
Deputy John Malveaux was heading to a non-emergency call on La. 98 around 11:45 p.m. when he struck Grant Hamilton, 34, who was standing in the the highway near Desoto Road, police said in a news release.
Hamilton was taken to Lafayette General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His toxicology results are pending, police said.
Malveaux, 22, who was not injured, submitted to a breath alcohol test and showed no signs of impairment, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
