Authorities arrested a Mississippi man on a count of second-degree murder in the 2014 shooting death of 19-year-old Valerie West in Lafayette Parish.

Jason Marlin, 34, of Columbia, Mississippi, was extradited to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on Monday after his Jan. 29 arrest at his Marion County home, said Capt. John Babin, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Marlin is being held in lieu of $250,000 bond.

West died June 30 from a single gunshot wound to the head, the Sheriff’s Office said. She was found unconscious and unresponsive around 10:30 p.m. that evening near the 600 block of Gazette Road, a block away from her Madame Germaine Street residence in rural Lafayette Parish.

West grew up in the New Orleans area and graduated from Belle Chasse High in 2013, KATC-TV reported.

Missing woman found dead in Eunice pond

The body of an Elton woman missing since Sunday was found Tuesday floating in a pond in Eunice, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Earthy Maye Griffin, 61, was found around noon off U.S. 190 near Swan Lake Road after the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office tracked her phone to the location, said Sgt. Clay Higgins, Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

There was no immediate evidence of trauma on Griffin’s body, Higgins said.

Griffin had been reported missing Monday morning in Allen Parish. She was seen in the Eunice area Monday walking along the highway and also at a Walmart store, Higgins said.

New Iberia man booked in nightclub shooting

A New Iberia man was arrested Tuesday on a count of aggravated second-degree battery in a weekend shooting at a Lafayette nightclub.

Christian Blair Antoine, 22, is accused of shooting a 20-year-old man in the leg around 1 a.m. Saturday during an argument inside The Keg on McKinley Street, Lafayette Police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a news release.

Antoine was booked into the Iberia Parish jail and will later be transferred to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, Mouton said.

Church Point shooting suspect arrested

The teenager accused in a fatal shooting Sunday in Church Point was arrested Monday night and booked into Acadia Parish jail on a count of second-degree murder.

Donald “Dino” R. Gotche Jr. 19, of Church Point, was arrested by St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies and transferred to the jail, Church Point Police Chief Albert Venable said in a Tuesday news release.

Gotche is accused of killing 26-year-old Donald Senegal Jr., of Rayne, shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the corner of North Main and Sunrise Streets, Venable said.

Gotche’s bail was set at $300,000, Venable said.
