Police on Friday afternoon identified the victim as Rosando Gonzales.

Gonzales, 57, was living and working in Lafayette, said Lafayette Police Department spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton.

The investigation remains ongoing.

A man was shot to death Thursday night on Surrey Street, according to a Lafayette Police Department release.

When officers arrived at the 600 block of Surrey Street shortly after 8:20 p.m., they discovered the man dead on the ground, the release says.

According to the investigators, the victim had been walking with another man on the sidewalk when a dark-colored vehicle drove up and two men wearing dark, hooded jackets got out of the vehicle and, armed with handguns, approached the pedestrians.

As one of the pedestrians ran away, he heard a single gunshot, the release says.
