Man accused of shooting outside club

A Lawtell man arrested last weekend is accused of firing eight rounds into the air outside of a zydeco club, authorities said Tuesday.

Arresting deputies said Oran “Tre” Washington III fired his .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun outside of Frank’s Ranch on U.S. 190, according to Sgt. Clay Higgins, spokesman with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.

St. Landry Parish deputies showed up to the club after gunfire was reported, Higgins said, and witnesses identified Washington as the shooter. Deputies found the gun inside Washington’s Buick LeSabre, and eight spent casings were found at the scene and collected as evidence.

Washington was arrested on one count of illegal use of a firearm, Higgins said.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said such gunplay will be “aggressively investigated.”

“The illegal use of a firearm endangers everyone in the vicinity, as well as innocent citizens as far away as a mile or more,” Guidroz said in a news release.

Police look for man in drive-by shooting

A New Iberia man wanted in connection with an Oct. 14 drive-by shooting in Crowley is still on the loose, authorities said Tuesday.

Phillip J. Olivier is suspected of firing “multiple shots” at a vehicle carrying three people in the 1100 block of Western Avenue, police Chief K.P. Gibson said.

Police describe Olivier as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. Although his last known address is in New Iberia, Gibson said he is known to stay in Crowley and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Storage locker burglaries investigated

Authorities in Ville Platte are investigating a series of storage locker burglaries Monday at a facility on South Chataignier Road, KATC-TV reported.

Police were called to the facility Tuesday and learned multiple lockers were burglarized and several items were pilfered, Connie Lamke with the department’s criminal investigations division told KATC-TV. Surveillance camera footage showed five people, three men and two women, rode up in a silver Ford Sport Trac about 2 p.m. and got out, Lamke said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ville Platte Police Department at (337) 363-1313.
