A two-vehicle crash on La. 93 north of Scott on Tuesday claimed the life of a 74-year-old Scott man, according to a Louisiana State Police report.

Shortly before 3 p.m., Joseph E. Faul was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan west on La. 723 and failed to yield for a stop sign at the intersection with La. 93, said Master Trooper Brooks David.

As Faul’s vehicle went through the intersection, it was struck by a northbound 2014 Ford 250 driven by Douglas J. Bourque, 60, of Church Point, David said.

Faul, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, David said.

Bourque, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for his injuries, David said.

Troopers suspect impairment was a factor in the crash, he said. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
