MARTIN PARISH SHERIFF'S OFFICE -- Michael Barber, 39, of Breaux Bridge, was arrested Feb. 27, 2015, on counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, attempted production of child pornography and malfeasance in office after St. Martin Parish School Board officials filed a complaint against the 15-year deputy and school resource officer.

A school resource officer in St. Martin Parish was arrested Friday on allegations of indecent behavior with a minor, the Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release.

Michael Barber, 39, of Breaux Bridge, was booked on one count each of attempted production of child pornography, indecent behavior with a juvenile and malfeasance in office, said Maj. Ginny Higgins, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

The state Attorney General’s office made the arrest after investigating a complaint made this week to the Sheriff’s Office by St. Martin Parish School Board officials, Higgins said.

Barber was placed on administrative leave before he resigned from his position after 15 years as a Sheriff’s Office employee, Higgins said.

Barber remained in the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on Friday evening on a $40,000 bond.
